Lawton Laws:
At Lawton Chiles, we expect all of our students
to abide by the Lawton Laws. The following discipline plans
center around the Lawton Laws.

Sweets Jar:
I encourage sweetness by allowing students
to put a “sweet’ (candy) in the “Sweets Jar.”
When the candy reaches the top of the jar, the children celebrate
by splitting the contents!
“I Got Caught” Stickers:
If I see any of the children behaving especially
well, I will distribute “I Got Caught Doing Good” stickers.
Each child who receives one of these stickers will be eligible for
a school-wide prize giveaway during the “Meaningful Monday”
Chiles celebration.
Flip Chart:
As an individual incentive for creating and
encouraging role models in our classroom, we use a flip chart that
consists of three colored cards for each student. When I see individual
children exemplifying positive behavior, they are asked to “flip
their card” to the next color. When they reach the third card
(the “sticker card,”) they receive a new sticker on
their card and an “I Got Caught” slip (see above). When
they reach ten stars, they can choose between lunch with the teacher
and choosing a prize from the treasure box.
Shining Star:
Each week, one child from each first grade
classroom receives the “Shining Star” award. This child
is recognized during Friday’s assembly.
Parents:
This is a special award given to only one student in each class
per week, so when you see your child with this award, please encourage
the excellent behavior!
